City Confidential: Week of 11/4/18

Political types can be forgiven for sleeping through most of this week.  The Blue Wave has come and gone.  With several Senate seats still up for grabs, it looks as if the Democratic Party successfully harnessed backlash against President Donald Trump to take control of the House of Representatives.

Incumbent Democratic Senator Bob Casey defeated Republican Congressman Lou Barletta.  The scale of his victory was predicted by the polls.  For those of us who were around during his first 2006 Senate race against Rick Santorum, it is remarkable to think how far the underdog from the Electric City has come.

Governor Tom Wolfe was easily re-elected over Republican challenger Scott Wagner.  The Grand Old Party still wields legislative power in Harrisburg.

Democratic Senator John Blake cruised to victory against Republican Frank Scavo.

Democratic newcomer Kyle Mullins defeated Republican Ernest Lemoncelli.

We knew it was going to come true!  Democratic incumbent Marty Flynn was re-elected to the Pennsylvania House.  He ran unopposed.

Our election predictions last week were pretty spot on.  We here at City Confidential do own up to our mistakes.  We did not foresee the big margin Democratic Congressman Matt Cartwright would hit in his race against Republican challenger John Chrin.  After all the money that was spent on that race, especially by Chrin’s camp and national Republicans, it wasn’t even close.
