Kelly Column Alleges Kirijan Harrassed

In an explosive column of Kelly’s World published today, Scranton Times-Tribune writer Chris Kelly alleges that Dr. Alexis Kirijan has complained about sexual harassment and gender discrimination by an unnamed member of the Scranton School Board.

According to Kelly,

Back in June, Kirijan quietly accused board members and district officials of sexual and ethnic harassment. The board secretly hired an outside attorney to investigate. The board and the superintendent have a clear duty to come clean with the public Monday night at the district Administration Building.

In June, Kirijan hired attorneys Hourigan, Kluger and Quinn PC who notified school directors of her allegations.  Specifically, the letter cites comments about Kirjan’s choice of clothing and after hours telephone calls placed from the member while he or she was intoxicated.

Kirijan claims to have raised the issue with board solicitor John Minora and human resources director Bill Gaynord.  Minora told a separate Scranton Times-Tribune reporter that the superintendent had no approached him directly regarding accusations of harassment.

The next Board of Education meeting will certainly be interesting.
