City Confidential: Week of 10/14/18

Will the Scranton School District ever get its act together?  Last week saw the leak of superintendent Alexis Kirijan‘s June letter alleging harassment and discrimination at the hands of an unnamed School Board member.  The dust is still settling, but Kirijan is rightly angry at whomever leaked it.  Observers are also wondering what procedure – if any – was followed by the district’s leaders.  Paige Gebhart Cognetti wants to know whether school directors violated the Sunshine Law when they retained the services of attorney Jarrett Ferentino to investigate the allegations.  Also, this week’s Lack of Self-Awareness Award goes to our friend Bob Lesh.  BL was quoted in the Scranton Times-Tribune railing against the lack of trust and respect for district personnel.

If you forgot that there is a race for U.S. Senate, we will forgive you.  This sleepy contest between the normally fiery Republican Congressman Lou Barletta and Democratic Senator Bob Casey is trudging toward the finish line.  Barletta got into the race at the urging of President Donald Trump.  Where is his benefactor in the home stretch?

We typically confine ourselves to all things Scranton.  However, State Representative Sid Michaels Kavulich passed away this week.  Sid accomplished a great deal in his life.  His loving children are evidence of that.  Our condolences to his family and those that loved him.
